I am running an up-to-date version of Ubuntu Mate 16.04 (sane package
version 1.0.14-11).  This scanner has worked fine in the past, but only
because I edited some sort of resolution file.  I recently blew away my
install and did a complete switch of distros, so I think I lost that
edit.

Flatbed scan is fine, but selecting (ADF) causes either the X coordinate or Y coordinate to exceed the maximum value.Exceeds is mis-spelled in the error message (Exceedes), by the way.

I'm using gscan2pdf as the front-end.  If I change the "max x" to 215 in the manual setting; the scan works.

Here is a debug log of one my errored (Legal size) scans:
***@mako:~$ SANE_DEBUG_HP5590=50 scanimage --device-name='hp5590:libusb:002:023' --source='ADF' -x 216 --resolution='200' -y 279 --batch
[sanei_debug] Setting debug level of hp5590 to 50.

Hi Todd Family,
Post by Todd Family
I am running an up-to-date version of Ubuntu Mate 16.04 (sane package
version 1.0.14-11). This scanner has worked fine in the past, but only
because I edited some sort of resolution file. I recently blew away my
install and did a complete switch of distros, so I think I lost that
edit.
Flatbed scan is fine, but selecting (ADF) causes either the X
coordinate or Y coordinate to exceed the maximum value. Exceeds is
mis-spelled in the error message (Exceedes), by the way.
Fixed the typo.
@Ilia> Time permitting, could you take a look at the default scan area
settings for ADF? Thanks!

Hope this helps,

Under gscan2pdf the default geometry shows
Name        Width        Height
A4           210          297
US Letter    216          279
US Legal     216          355

I only tried US Letter and US Legal.  I didn't try A4.

Thanks for your time!

@Todd, thanks for great report - pretty useful.
@Olaf, appreciate fixing the typo.

There must be a rounding / calculation issue, which I want to narrow
down w/o attempting to fix it blindly. I might be able to have access
to a HP device to reproduce and fix at the right place, hopefully
somewhere this week.
